Kebo Valley Golf Club - Walking Tour Stop

Add to plan Remove from plan

Kebo Valley Club, the eighth oldest golf course in the United States, might still be a nine hole course, or would be out of business, if it weren't for George B. Dorr stepping forward in 1916. He provided land for the final nine holes with land he obtained when purchasing Harden farm. Much of the funding to keep the fledgling club afloat was provided by dedicating holes to former members. The list reads like a who'swho in America because it was! President William Howard Taft, who had to finish his round with the help of lanterns as darkness fell after taking 27 strokes on the famous 17th hole! A plaque near the parking lot honors benefactor Waldron Bates (See panel #S8 Pathmaker). He left $5000 to the Club in his will.
